Accessibility Policy Statement
Accessibility is fundamental to our website policy. We believe that everyone should be able to access our services and, in particular, are taking continual steps to improve our web provision to members and public users with disabilities, and those in places with slow or erratic internet connections.
This website is being developed to conform with and exceed Priority 1
compliance as specified by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
and this policy statement is evolving as we work to bring this website
up to our target compliance level. We aim to reach our targeted compliance
level by end of March 2005 for the core of the site. However, should you
encounter a serious issue which is preventing you from accessing information
on a page, please let us know and we shall endeavour
to fix it as soon as possible.

Target Compliance Levels
Current site:
It is our intention to achieve compliance with the following standards, so far as is possible within our budgetary constraints:
- W3C HTML 4.01 transitional compliance for HTML code;
- W3C CSS2 compliance for the CSS style/layout information;
- W3C
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0:
Main site, and most recent library documents:
"AA" Compliance, i.e. satisfying Priority 1 and 2 checks,
with the exception of spawned windows for PDF downloads (under review);
Older library documents: "A"
Compliance, i.e. satisfying Priority 1 checks, where this can be
achieved without major re-coding work;
- further best practice accessibility enhancements in consultation with Enable Interactive web accessibility experts.
Please let us know if you find a significant non-compliance!
This essentially covers the whole site apart from the ETI Library archive, in which recent and key documents only will be updated (remaining documents may include non-compliant elements, but are generally reasonably accessible).
Future rebuilds:
- it is our intention to lift the compliance level of our next website redesign beyond Priority 2, to incorporate further best practice enhancements, with the exception of older/less popular documents in the 'Library' archive, which will continue to remain available 'for the record' only.
Feedback
We constantly update and review this site to ensure accessibility and other standards compliance are kept high. If you have a particular need that we do not currently cater for, please write to us and we will do our best to help.
