ETI conference 2005 - Shaping a new agenda

C9: Supplier ownership: a more sustainable way to manage supply chain labour practices?

Critical issues workshop

This workshop will showcase various efforts by industry and others to establish code management systems in supplier factories – an approach that has the promise of being more sustainable than many current “top down” compliance models. It provided participants with:

  • The rationale for developing supplier management systems
  • An overview of the successes and challenges faced by such initiatives, as viewed by the retailer/brand, the supplier and the workers themselves.

BRIEFING PAPERS

Based on presentations and discussions from the conference, this set of briefing papers has been designed to provide practical guidance to brands, retailers, suppliers and others on addressing cutting edge issues in ethical trade, such as resolving difficult non-compliances, improving purchasing practices, and working with trade unions.

Speakers

Chair: Bas Morris, Community (Day 1); Sam Gurney, Trades Union Congress (TUC) (Day 2)
