ETI conference 2005 - Shaping a new agenda
Software
requirements & multimedia help
The full text files and slideshow presentations are provided in PDF format, which may be downloaded and read/viewed with any fairly recent PDF viewer.
Please note that the audio files are downloads not 'streamed' media - i.e. these files usually must be downloaded in full first, and then viewed/played using appropriate software on your computer. That said, if you have a fast connection, and your computer is set up appropriately, they may well start to play while they are still downloading.
As with all downloads, your computer may be set up to open them automatically. If you prefer to save them to your hard disk before opening them, you may have to right-click on each link and and "save as" then, once the download is complete, locate and double-click on the downloaded file to open it. In common with the rest of this website, links to download PDF documents will open a new browser window - this is to accommodate crashes reported by users of browser plug-ins running on Windows. We apologise to users of other systems who may find this irritating.
If you cannot open the downloaded files, you may not have the necessary software installed on your computer. Most Macintosh OS and Linux packages already include everything you need; for Windows, there are many software packages that will read the file formats provided - we simply suggest two of the most popular:
- Acrobat
Reader - software for reading PDF documents, produced
by Adobe - available for a variety of platforms including Windows, Apple
Macintosh, and Linux. If you have an old computer, you might want to use
one of the older
versions of Acrobat Reader (perhaps v4
or v5) which use less disk space and other
resources.
- Quicktime Player - is one of many software packages for playing video and audio files in many formats, including the MP3 audio formats used above. This software is available for both Windows and Mac from the Apple website, where there is also a helpful Quicktime Support page including links to download older versions. Linux users can choose between a number of third party products, with a variety of issues regarding compatibility and installation - please see appropriate Linux news sites!
Important: ETI can take no responsibility whatsoever for any third party downloads - please read our disclaimer.
