ETI Secretariat
The ETI Secretariat is responsible
for the day-to-day management and implementation of all ETI activities.
Currently, it comprises twelve full-time and four part-time staff members,
with support from several consultants.

Staff Biographies:
Dan Rees, Director
Dan Rees is the Director of the Ethical Trading Initiative
and has been with ETI since July 1999.
Prior to joining the ETI, Dan spent 10 years working with non-governmental
organisations in the field of international development. Most recently
Dan led VSO's Global Education and Advocacy Department for four years
during which time VSO brokered innovative engagement between poorer
communities in the developing world and the international tourism industry.
Niaz Alam, Deputy Director
Niaz Alam joined ETI as Deputy Director in November 2006. A qualified solicitor,
he has worked on corporate responsibility and ethical investment issues
since 1992. Before ETI he worked at
EIRIS,
where he was Head of Social issues
research. A former vice-chair of War on Want where he was a trustee for
seven years, he is currently a non-executive director of the London Pension
Funds Authority.
Liz Kirk, Head of Projects
Liz joined ETI as a Project Manager in
February 2005 from the Institute of Development Studies, Sussex University
where she worked as both a consultant and post-graduate student. Before
this she spent two years in Bangladesh working with a network of over
200 NGOs which focussed on gender, labour rights and governance
and which was successful in brokering national-level multi-stakeholder
dialogue on integrating a gendered analysis of labour conditions into
the national Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper.
Man-Kwun Chan, Head of Communications and Research
Man-Kwun joined the ETI Secretariat as Research and
Information Manager in December 2001.
Prior to joining ETI, Man-Kwun worked in overseas development for 8
years, primarily in the agricultural sector. She spent one year setting
up an economic survey programme for the National Reserve Bank of Tonga
(Tonga, South Pacific), and 7 years working as a social scientist at
the Natural Resources Institute (NRI) in Chatham.
In 1997, Man-Kwun joined the Natural Resources and Ethical Trade (NRET)
Programme at NRI. As
a core member of NRET, she managed a portfolio
of ethical trade research and consultancy projects, with a focus on
codes of practice in the fresh produce sector. Man-Kwun trained as a
social scientist and in environmental policy and management.
