Working with Others
ETI is active in a number of collaborative initiatives:
Multistakeholder Initiatives Project
or "Joint Initiative on Corporate Accountability and Workers' Rights"
ETI is working on a joint project with the Clean Clothes Campaign (Europe), Fair Wear Foundation (The Netherlands), Fair Labor Association (USA), Social Accountability International (international) and Worker Rights Consortium (USA) to explore and develop complementary approaches to code implementation. The Multistakeholder Initiatives Project aims specifically to identify and conduct joint research on areas of common interest (eg, complaints mechanisms, living wage), and develop common guidelines on aspects of monitoring and implementing the provisions of voluntary codes of labour practice.
MFA Forum
The final stage of the phase-out of the MFA on 1 January 2005 is predicted to have significant economic and social consequences, including substantial job losses in some key garment producing countries in the developing world. The MFA Forum, a collection of multilateral and national public institutions, labour and civil society organisations, businesses and multi-stakeholder initiatives, came together in March 2004 to explore the potential for collaborative and coordinated actions in the run-up to and after the end of quotas under the Agreement on Textiles and Clothing (ATC).
Supplier Ethical Date Exchange (Sedex) Project
ETI sits on the advisory board of the Supplier Ethical Date Exchange (Sedex) project, which has been developed since mid-2002 by a number of companies, including ETI company members.
