Each of the experimental projects described on pages 11 - 14 enables us to identify good practice in an important area of code implementation. Sharing good practice – and indeed all our learning – is equally vital. Our communications programme is targeted at all who need or want to develop understanding and practical skills in ethical trade.

Last year, we focused on finding better ways of meeting the learning needs of our members. This year, we looked beyond the membership and channelled our efforts on communicating information and experience much more widely. Highlights included the ETI international conference held in May 2003, and the production of three key publications: the first public edition of the ETI workbook, Key challenges in ethical trade - a report based on the ETI conference, and a report on lessons from our experimental project in South Africa. The following pages give more detail of the conference and these publications.

We also:

• Developed a strategy for our training programme, the aim of which will be to improve the skills of our corporate members, their suppliers and other stakeholders in supplier countries in implementing the ETI Base Code. In the coming year, we will develop detailed training modules and train the trainers;
• Organised eight members’ roundtables, and three public seminars (see page 18);
• Re-built our website to make it easier to navigate around this rapidly-growing information resource;
• Published a new brochure [PDF, 125kb] introducing the work of ETI and circulated it widely;
• Produced nine issues of our members’ newsletter, ETI Update.
