annual report 2002/2003 — harnessing difference
All members of ETI commit to promoting ethical trade and to contributing actively to our projects and activities. Corporate members also make a commitment to implementing the Base Code in their supply chains and reporting annually on their progress. Pages 23 - 26 provide a summary of the activities and achievements of our corporate members in 2002. Together the reports provide a valuable overview of how some of the UK’s ethical trade leaders are translating ethical principles into day-to-day actions. In 2002, we made real progress in strengthening the commitment and contribution of our trade union and NGO caucuses. We welcomed Home Workers Worldwide and the National Group on Homeworking as new NGO members, and our newly appointed NGO co-ordinator has helped to improve the cohesion and effectiveness of contributions from our diverse NGO membership. Her trade union counterpart has signed up more trade union representatives to take part in our projects. The reporting process that we require of our corporate members is a cornerstone of what ETI is about and allows us to reinforce members’ commitment to transparency and accountability, and review progress and continuing membership eligibility. Importantly, it also provides us with a means to set expectations for company performance and drive year-on-year improvements, highlight common issues and challenges, and document and share good practice.
