Overview
Cal Safety Compliance Corporation (CSCC) provides brief (half-page) country profiles on its Website. A large number of countries are covered, and each profile touches on issues directly relevant to company labour codes, although coverage is limited on a free basis, and may vary between countries. These profiles are useful as an initial indicator of key areas of risk.

How information is collected
LA Headquarters has a large Research and Development department. The sole function of this department is researching and updating country laws, profiles, current affairs and communicating with NGO’s and other associations and organisations.
Key strengths
- Provide a rapid indication of key areas of risk. The profiles provide a good initial indicator of key areas of risk, particular in relation to child labour, wages, working hours and health and safety.
- Directly relevant to corporate labour codes. As well as providing information on law and practice in relation to different aspects of the Base Code (see above), the profiles also provide other background information relevant to auditing, eg, record-keeping practices, corruption of labour officials, presence of sub-contracting and labour contracting in various industries.
Less strong on…
- The profiles are very brief and not intended to be comprehensive. While useful as a starting point, we would strongly recommend that the CSCC profiles are only used as part of a wider portfolio of information resources.
- Minimum coverage of “rights-based” aspects of the ETI Base Code, in particular freedom of association and collective bargaining. However, CSCC do have a great deal more information, including comprehensive labour law and other country data, which they provide to clients or on request for a nominal fee.
