Contractors realise business benefits
Product quality improves after training homeworkers
Contractor members of the Bareilly Homeworker Group are benefiting from improved product quality and learning how to work collectively.
Some ten contractors - the people who organise handing out and picking up work from homeworkers - are now active members of Bareilly Homeworker Group. Some used to be homeworkers themselves and remember the difficult lives they once had. Many report a sense of satisfaction in giving something back to homeworkers.
Contractors like Akif (above), who has also provided his office premises as the location of the new informal education centre in Richola, are also experiencing business benefits, including getting better quality product.
Akif says, "One of the benefits for me of the Bareilly Homeworker Group is the fact that the quality of homeworkers' work has improved. Now, when I give work to a homeworker who has received training provided by the Group, I know I don't have to worry about quality."
Training of both contractors and homeworkers in record keeping is also helping homeworkers keep track of their payments.
