Workshop 1: The essentials of ethical trade
Building the foundations of ethical trade policies and practices
This one-day workshop gives participants a practical understanding of the key issues and concepts in ethical trade, and sets out the essential building blocks for their ethical trade policy and strategy. Topics include:
- Defining the scope of ‘ethical' trade and the advantages of trading ethically
- Unpicking the ETI Base Code, and what it means in practice
- Mapping supply chains and understanding their role in implementing codes of practice
The workshop provides essential information for everyone involved in developing and managing codes of practice on supply chain labour conditions. It will be particularly valuable for individuals with limited direct experience of ethical trade or in organisations starting out on the journey to improve workers' lives. It will be equally valuable to people already working to implement codes of practice throughout supply chains, and to those wanting to update their understanding of the agenda.
It is strongly recommended that participants attend this workshop before undertaking any of the other workshops.
