Alan has had a lifelong career in retailing with major high street companies and suppliers, with specific emphasis on worldwide sourcing and supply chain management encompassing all consumer products. His initial career was spent with Marks & Spencer before joining Slimma Group, Coats Viyella, Dewhirst and the Littlewoods Organisation.

After five years as an interim consultant supporting high street retailers and brands with their ethical programmes he is now the global supply chain and sourcing Vice President for Speedo International, part of the Pentland Group of companies.

Alan is a founder Board member of ETI and was appointed Independent Chair in November 2001. He is regarded both in the UK and internationally as an eminent authority on the effective implementation of codes of labour practice in global supply chains.
