ETI's course on ‘The essentials of ethical trade' will help participants build the necessary skills and understanding to manage, monitor and improve the conditions for workers in global supply chains.
Who is it for?
The course is designed for staff in retailing and supplier companies who are responsible for implementing codes of practice on labour conditions in the supply chain, and for trade union representatives and staff from non-governmental organisations who promote ethical trade.
In particular, the course will benefit:
- Ethical trade/code of practice managers and auditors in retailing companies.
- Buyers, technologists, merchandisers and HR managers in retailing companies.
- Staff in importing/supplying companies with responsibility for implementing customer codes of practice on labour conditions.
- Sourcing staff in large NGO or government departments with responsibility for ethical trade policies.
- Trade unionists who engage with voluntary corporate initiatives and/or multinational enterprises.
- NGO policy advisors who work on private sector and/or labour rights issues.
- Social auditors and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) consultants who provide services in this area.
What does the course cover?
‘The essentials of ethical trade' comprises four one-day workshops which will help participants build the foundations of a sound ethical trade policy and strategy, and develop the knowledge and understanding to put this into practice along the supply chain. What will you get from the course?
By the end of the course, participants will:
- Have a good understanding of the ETI Base Code and the challenges in putting it into practice.
- Be able to map their own supply chains and understand the significance of this for implementing ethical trade.
- Know how to apply a range of tools (eg risk assessment and auditing) to implement codes of practice and improve worker conditions.
- Be able to develop SMART improvement plans, involving different stakeholders.
- Know how to find key ethical trade resources, including local partners.
- Know different ways to involve workers in ethical trade.
- Be aware of mechanisms aimed at improving conditions for marginalised workers.
- Understand how and why to integrate ethical trade into core business practices.
