Ethiopia & Myanmar as new sourcing markets: opportunities & risks for ethical trade
Companies and international investors are turning to new markets to source products. Myanmar and Ethiopia are strong contenders, with the added benefit of vertically integrated supply chains that can be more easily managed and could increase efficiencies. But with opportunities, there are risks and challenges for ethical trade – particularly in countries that have had authoritarian or military regimes - and where respect for workers rights has historically been denied. This session will explore the question of what good ‘due diligence’ looks like, and will highlight examples of good practice.
