Multinational retailer and ETI member, Marks & Spencer, is working to eliminate sexual harassment and gender discrimination in its India supply chain. Reaching around 12,000 women across India, the programme is the focus of a short film published today by ETI.
ETI’s five year programme aims to catalyse positive change within the garment industry through activities that empower young women workers, strengthen industrial relations, build community awareness and support legislative reform.
Young women workers in south India’s garment industry are killing themselves. Sometimes in a factory, or in hostels attached to factories. Twenty suspected suicides occurred in just three months, in the state of Tamil Nadu.
