On 21 October 2026, 20 leading businesses, including seven of the UK’s major supermarkets, joined the British Retail Consortium, B Lab UK, trade unions and civil society organisations in writing to Prime Minister Andy Burnham. The letter calls on the Government to commit, in this parliamentary session, to mandatory human rights and environmental due diligence (mHREDD) legislation.
Coordinated by ETI and the Corporate Justice Coalition, it argues for one clear UK standard, aligned with the UN Guiding Principles and OECD Guidelines, that rewards responsible businesses and creates a level playing field. It also urges the Government to publish its review of Responsible Business Conduct and the FCDO’s National Baseline Assessment.
